Supergirl’s first day of school September 29, 2007

Filed under: Kids — findingbabyg @ 9:49 am

Okay, so this happened last week, but I’m a little slow lately. She love love loves school. She goes three mornings a week. It is amazing how much I can get done in those three hours!! Boomer gets to have some alone time with us also, so it is working out well for everyone. Her first day she almost cried when we came to pick her up, because she did not want to go home, she wanted to stay at school. The next day as we walked out the door on our way to school she assured me “mom, I’m not gonna cry when you come get me today”

3 years old! September 18, 2007

Filed under: Kids — findingbabyg @ 1:50 pm

Tomorrow my little girl will be turning 3 years old.  3 years ago today Daddy-O and I went to our local ‘italian fest’ and were way overwhelmed with all of the teenagers in the street.  We didn’t know if we were having a girl or boy, so every girl that walked by with tons of make up, very little clothing, and throwing out profanities like professionals scared the bejesus out of us. (is that really a word?)  Anyways, much to our surprise, the very next morning here we were- proud parents of a beautiful baby girl.  Having a girl has been amazing.  She talks nonstop, plays pretend, makes lots of pretend ‘families’ and is all around a beautiful little person.  So here she is turning 3, AND going to her first day of preschool.  I am sad, but at the same time I am very proud of the little person she is growing into.  I like to think we had a little something to do with that :)

A few days ago Daddy-O told me “our daughter looks like she’s on ecstasy.”

Confused I turn around to see this walk around the corner…

what is she doing?

This morning I walked in and Boomer was standing in his crib!  It has just been in the last few weeks he learned to crawl, go from laying to sitting, and now pulling up.  Oh, and he is getting two more teeth!  That makes 4 since he has been home.  I know time seems to go faster as you get older, but this just seems crazy!

So at last night’s dance class I tried to do some of my reading for my class while I waited.  This did not work at all.  The waiting area is RIGHT next to the studio Supergirl is in and I could hear them.  They were actually putting a few steps together with music.  There is a one way mirror that you can watch through, so I ended up spending the entire time there.  They were way too cute for me to be reading about social policy within the education system!!

Ethiopian boys… September 8, 2007

I’ve known Minnow and his mommy for about a year now.  It is so wonderful to know someone in your area who also has a baby adopted from the same place.  More recently we have met Stacie and her cute cute little boy.  We all got together at Dawn’s house a few weeks ago, and met again at the zoo later that same week.  I am finally getting around to posting a few pics…

Unfortunately we waited until we were leaving to take pictures, at which point the babies were VERY cranky-
The babies are not happy

Minnow was just trying to get the heck away from them :)
even more nervous

too cute…

While they were playing, they made a run for Build-A-Bear. I ran in to get them out. As I was scooping up Minnow the woman working there said “Um..she’s peeing in her pants” Confused, I look at her and say “What???” Then she says “isn’t that your daughter” at which point I look up and see Supergirl standing in the middle of the sidewalk with a puddle forming between her legs. I immediately panic as I realize that I brought no extra clothes for her. I had no idea which was better—letting her walk around naked, or making her wear pee pants…
Thank goodness for Minnow’s mommy!! She had brought a pair of swim trunks for Minnow, and thank goodness Supergirl is skinny because they totally fit. Here is Supergirl looking supercool in Minnow’s shorts :) I am hoping this is the ONLY time she comes home wearing a boy’s pants!!!

Growing up September 6, 2007

First of all, we are all feeling better.  YAY!!!  I went to bed with a migraine, and woke up with a migraine… BUT it is gone now, and all bellies seem to be healed.  Thank goodness!

I just had to post about little Baby G and how quickly he is growing.  First of all, from here on out I will be referring to him as ‘Boomer.’  This is what Daddy-O always wanted to name our son…  And this is what Supergirl has always called him.  So, although it is not his ‘legal’ name, this is what I shall call him… Plus I’m tired of typing ‘Baby G’, it takes too long :)

Anyways, the first month he was home he learned how to sit up without falling, and how to scoot everywhere on his belly.  In the last week he has learned two new tricks…  I began walking into the room to find him sitting when I knew he was laying before (he was almost always sitting in his crib when I walked in) but I never actually caught him in the act.  Until yesterday morning.  But now that he has been busted, he feels free to do it all the time.

And then this morning I watched as he downed all the milk out of a sippy cup I had out for the little girl we babysit.  I have given him a sippy cup before, but it always frustrated the heck out of him, so he hasn’t had one for awhile.  But when he got ahold of the one this morning it took him no time at all to completely empty it.
Yay Boomer!!!

*Warning:  poo mentioned

Ever have one of those days?  or nights?   You know the kind.  The kind where you and both kids are going on your 4th day of upset bellies.  Upset bellies that started like this:

On Saturday morning I decided to take the kids to the park.  Daddy-O was at work and it was the first slightly cooler weather we’ve had in a very long time.  Once there I left the diaper bag in the car.  After all, if Baby G were to get a dirty diaper we would most likely just go home anyways (we only live about 1/2 mile from the park).  I get him in the swing and Supergirl takes a trip down the slide when she runs up to me and says she has to potty.  Great.  No bathrooms here.  No one was around so I decide to risk it and let her go in the woods (really it was that or on the playground).  So while holding the baby we head for the trees and manage to get her shoes and pants off.  I convince her to take a very wide stance, as I am not prepared to deal with feet covered in pee.  At this point I realize she has diarrhea.  NOT pee.  Crapola.  Thankfully it was only a tiny bit.  But…her legs now have poo on them.   Unsure what to do I search for leaves that are clearly not poison ivy and try using those.  That definitely does not work.  So I stand her by a picnic table where she is covered and I can clearly see her and walk to the car to get the wipies.  At this point another family has arrived and all the frisbee disc golf guys are walking by.  Very thankful my daughter is not yet old enough to be embarrased I get her all cleaned up and dressed (still holding the baby who is getting a bit impatient).  We head back to the playground and I get him back in the swing and watch her head down the slide.  She then runs up to me holding her butt.  I asked if she needs to go potty and it is clear she does.  “Mom, just hold me so I don’t go poop.”  “Okay, how about we go home and come back when we feel better.”  The fact she agreed to that speaks volumes about just how icky she felt.

By the end of the day both Baby G and I were feeling the same way.  Flash forward to Monday night.  Classic mom moment.  I am instantly awake from a dead sleep at the sound of gagging.  Before I even open my eyes I have my hand cupped under Supergirls mouth as she stands next to my bed.  Thankfully she had not been eating much so there was hardly anything actually coming out.  We get the trashcan and head for her room.  She feels ridiculously hot.  Her temperature has been 104 before in one of these ‘I’m going to run a ridiculously high fever and throw up all night and then be fine in the morning’ episodes.  I head downstairs in the dark to find the thermometer (mind you I am completely blind without my contacts in).  I manage to find it and take her temperature, only to find it is 30 something degrees CELSIUS…  Who even knew this thing had Celsius or how to switch it back.  I messed with it for awhile and then headed back downstairs to get the computer.  I managed to find a Celsius converter–temp 102, although she felt hotter than that, and also managed to find the instruction manual online and switched the thermometer back.  She only threw up once more, but this basically resulted in little to no sleep and this was of course the night before Daddy-O’s 24 hour shift…
Flash forward to the following night (last night-the night Daddy-O is at work and I have had very little sleep in the last 36 hours)…  Baby G has been sleeping so much better, only getting up once per night.  Until last night.  He was once again in rare form.  He does this thing where he screams at night.  He’s not crying, but is communicating VERY clearly that he DEMANDS I come into his room.  It’s a scream that runs down the back of your spine.  Usually when he does this a bottle is the only thing that will calm him down.  We had been through this twice by 2 am and I had just gotten him back in bed when I have the thought I need to check in on Supergirl.  Still blind I can see she is sleeping with her head at the foot of the bed and her feet on the pillow.  Too cute I think, going in to give her a kiss.  When I get close enough it becomes clear the bed is wet.  Grrrr.  I wake her up; “What mom”  ” I need to change your sheets, you peed in the bed”  “Oh, okay”  “Take off your pants so we can get some dry ones on”  “Okay”  She patiently waits while I rip the sheets and mattress pad off the bed.  About this time I step on something sticky and realize it is her underwear.  Upon closer inspection I realize she also had a little bit of diarrhea, which is now on my foot and probably on her butt.  So we head to the bathroom to get cleaned up.  Back to her room to finish putting the sheets on, at which point she decides it will be fun to pull the; “are you done yet?” “now?” “now?” “now?”  Finally I got her back in bed and head to bed.  She comes in my room about 3 more times that night to inform me her “topbelly hurts” (apparently her bottom belly is her butt).  So here we are, up at 7.  Looking extremely scrungy as I didn’t have the energy to bathe anyone last night.  Waiting for Daddy-O to get home.  Hoping he had a slow night and is not exhausted….

UPDATE:  I had almost fallen asleep for a quick nap this morning when a pair of big girl panties get thrown at me with a “mom, I pooped just a little bit in my big girl panties, they are sad”

and then later (heard coming from the bathroom)  “MOM, I got poop on the floor and it’s all over my leg—-I need you now!!!”

So, no….my day is not getting much better yet…
