Just a few conversations from today:

SG:  Mom….why do Christmas trees have to be so pretty?

SG:  What’s that in your eye right there (poking my eyeball).  It’s red like blood.

Me:  It’s red because I have allergies.

SG:  I don’t have allergies.

Me:  No, that’s good.

SG:  Only big ole’ huge girls have allergies.

Me:  Thanks, thanks a lot.

SG:  Baby Jesus and the lamb ran away. (the lamb is still missing…)

(conversation with my dad on the phone)

Dad:  We just ate spaghetti.  I am thinking about having some pumpkin roll.

Me:  That sounds really good right now. Blah, blah, blah, kids are doing well, Christmas tree is up, blah, blah , blah

Dad:  Blah, blah, blah, that’s great, blah blah blah.  Oh, my pumpkin roll is here.  I didn’t even get up!

Me:  Wow, I want a self-delivering pumpkin roll…

Dad:  Well, actually it didn’t deliver itself, my wonderful wife just brought me a piece.

Me:  Wow, I really want a wife…

SG (while coloring):  Mom, I’m a drawing machine.  Actually, I’m 3 machines.  I’m a drawing machine, a eating machine, and a farting machine.

Also:

Just a quick update…  Thanksgiving was great, went to Oklahoma, visited with my family.  Boomer got to meet his great grandmas and great grandpa and lots of aunts, uncles and cousins.  SG got to ride her favorite horse sonny.  The ride wasn’t too bad… not too good either, but not too bad.

At his one year well-check our pediatrician gave us a referral for a speech eval for Boomer.  Premature, perhaps, but she said she was being proactive.  Anyways, after both a speech and developmental eval, looks like he is just fine.  He does not qualify for services.  He can already say mama, dada, more, and just started saying ball.  I know he has been so focused on learning to walk, he doesn’t have time for talking.  Oh, have I mentioned he is walking now?  Everywhere.  All the time.  It seems like wherever I go he is standing right behind me :)   UNTIL I put shoes on him.  Then suddenly he loses all ability to stand.  It’s very interesting.  The boy just can not walk in shoes.  He gets SO mad when I even put them on him.  I am going to start making him where them around the house so he can get used to them so he can walk in places other than just the inside of our house…

Oklahoma Mixer November 15, 2007

Filed under: Kids — findingbabyg @ 11:57 pm

I was discussing Thanksgiving plans with a few of our practicum students at work yesterday, and it was mentioned I was from Oklahoma (since going there just happens to be our Thanksgiving plans…)  It just so happened these two students were international students, one from Japan and one from China.  I was asked if I knew the ‘Oklahoma mixer.’  Never heard of it.  I was surprised to learn this is very famous song in Japan and includes a dance…

I absolutely had to find out more.  Here is what the Japanese wikipedia had to say:

http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%82%AA%E3%82%AF%E3%83%A9%E3%83%9B%E3%83%9E%E3%83%9F%E3%82%AD%E3%82%B5%E3%83%BC

that was not much help to me as I do not know Japanese.  Here is a mention of it in English…

http://www.houston.us.emb-japan.go.jp/en/ryojikan/letter20070302-1.htm

From what I gather it appears this ‘Oklahoma mixer’ is actually a type of line-dance performed to the song ‘Texas straw’ that is taught in junior high PE classes in Japan.  A very exciting dance as they get to dance with the opposite sex…  I could be totally off base here, so if there is anyone from Japan reading this who can set me straight please feel free to do so.

So…is it crazy that I now feel like some sort of hillbilly international superstar?

And that I also feel a need to learn the Oklahoma mixer so if I ever travel to Japan I can show them my skills and tell them that in Oklahoma people are born doing this dance?

A few things I love:

  • That Supergirl loves school so so so much.  Even though she is a few weeks short of the cutoff date, and couldn’t get into several of the other 3-year-old programs around, I am so glad we still decided to send her.  She could not love it any more than she does.  She gets so excited just talking about school and can’t wait to go back.
  • That Boomer’s readoption is DONE!  It was actually quite painless.  The judge did ask Supergirl how she felt about everything and I was totally nervous because just that morning she had informed me that she did not want him to stay with us and wanted him to go back to Africa (this was only because I had to wake her up to get ready and she was very grumpy and very nervous as she thought we were going to see Judge Judy—true story)…  But she stepped up and informed the judge she thought it was ‘good.’
  • That Supergirl loves to tell me she loves me and give hugs and kisses.  And that Boomer is watching and imitating so much of what she does.
  • That my kids are finally starting to spend a decent amount of time actually playing together.  They are so funny to watch.  She can definitely make him laugh way better than anyone else.  They wrestle, too, which is very entertaining to watch.
  • That my major assignment for class is DONE!
  • That we have so much candy laying around from Halloween (I shouldn’t love this and I definitely shouldn’t be eating as much as I have been—-but, oh well)
  • That we had dinner last week with several other families from our area who have already or are in the process of adopting from Ethiopia.  We ate Ethiopian food (only my 3rd time) and I am actually starting to like it…
  • That it’s getting cold and I get to snuggle under huge blankets and drink hot chocolate and eat chili and stew (although ask me in about a month and I will explain how much I hate the cold weather…)

***Daddy-O is right, I did forget someone/something.  I love The Office and am very bummed about the writer’s strike….

j/k

Addendum:

I love Daddy-O.  And how much he has been doing to help lately…  He is without a doubt doing at least half of the childcare, he’s doing a lot of cooking and cleaning (as a matter of fact I am at work today and he is cooking some delicious stew for dinner—which I have been craving), and has even being doing more laundry than me!  I cannot say enough about how awesome he is.  But he should already know that…  Oh, and I love how he managed to get all of our groceries into the car last night despite the fact we forgot the giant stroller was in the trunk, and had to move said stroller into the front seat while I tried to sit in the 6 inches of backseat between the two carseats…
