April Project March 16, 2009

This is an incredible opportunity. All you need is $25. While it may feel like a lot, honestly it’s less than one night of eating out for us. Plus, the beauty of this is that it is a loan. The money is not gone forever. The default rate is only 2.21% which is incredibly low. You get it back! And then you can loan it to someone else. You can simply keep paying it forward over and over with the same $25! It is so personal, you can see the person, learn what the loan is for and get updates on how the project is going. You would loan me $25 right?

If you want to make a loan, make sure you join my team. Simply go to Kiva.org, click on community, and search for “Be the change you want to see in the world” (or just click here). Hey–there’s a picture of me and Boomer!!! Being on the team doesn’t obligate you to make a loan for any certain amount or to any certain person, it simply keeps track of our total loans. I would LOVE that number to be huge :)

Be a Doer March 13, 2009

Remember this? This problem is one that I have encountered my entire life. Traveling to Ethiopia a year and a half ago put my years of inaction smack dab in my face. I’m not going to lie—it sucked. It was overwhelming. To no longer be able to deny the true suffering that exists in this world. And knowing there is much much worse than what I could see. I came home with an incredible need to help. To take action.

But then I became engrossed with the day to day activities of our lives. Taking kids to school, to the park, cleaning house, working, and somehow time just kept slipping by.

Now here I sit, reading the emails sent by my dad from Ethiopia. Hearing the emotions in his words. Remembering how overwhelming it was. Seeing a little boy’s face that embodies the suffering I had pledged to try to ease. And yet, what have I done? Nothing.

No more!!! I am now on a mission to seek out ways to help. I will face my excuses head on: “I don’t have enough money” “I don’t have enough time” “I don’t have the expertise…”

I will find ways to help and shove them in the faces of my excuses. I WILL make a difference, however small it may be. At least it is not nothing.

I plan to try to highlight a way to help on this blog each month. While most will be geared toward Ethiopia and Africa, some will not. I want to find creative ways of making a difference that go past the excuses we all have. I already have a post in the making. Check back regularly and please feel free to leave suggestions.

I still hate exercise… March 3, 2009

Filed under: Kids — findingbabyg @ 11:04 pm

Hate is very seriously not a strong enough word. However, I have come to the conclusion that I enjoy eating healthy even less than exercising. I am very bad when it comes to food and tend to eat whatever I am in the mood for (which usually involves a deep fryer and a lot of grease). So that leaves exercise. Blah.
I go in spurts. I will work out 2-3 times in one week and then not again for a month. However, last week I worked out 6 days, and I just finished working out tonight. I am trying people. I hate it, but I am trying. Right now I am running/walking on the treadmill 3 times a week, and doing Core Rhythms the other days. Don’t laugh. Have you seen the stomachs on those girls? Seriously. I am using my Wii Fit to keep track of the days I work out, I like to see it on the calendar. Although I don’t like the body test part–funny how I can gain or lose 3 pounds in a day…

Okay, that’s all for now.

HI March 1, 2009

Filed under: Kids — findingbabyg @ 3:01 pm

So I’m still here. Just boring, I guess… My dad leaves on Saturday to go get my new brother, Tsegaye. I am hoping to go down with the kids to meet him in April. I can’t wait.
In other news—nothing really. Just the same old stuff. From Supergirl informing me she does not need to go to school anymore because she knows “everything” to Boomer calling me “pooty-head” about 800 times a day. We started a new adoption group at my church and I really like it. It’s nice to have other moms to talk to (as I have definitely learned through my Ethiopian Kids Group). I will try to start posting more (again). :)
