Supergirl (to her dad): “Why don’t you read chapter books? Because you’re a man?”
Book Review May 17, 2009
I recently posted a list of the books I have read recently. My SIL suggested I do a review, which I considered, but then decided I was too embarrased by my desire to do completely brainless reading lately
SO…. I decided instead to do a children’s book review. I am completely obsessed with children’s book and we have a TON!! I was so excited when Supergirl started school last year so we would start getting the Scholastic book orders. I order too many each time we get the form. It can’t be helped.
The kids both get on a tangent and want to read the same ones every night (Thomas and Barbie right now, blah), so I am not reviewing THEIR favorites, just mine
These are just a few of the favorites I have read in the last week or two:
Five Minutes’ Peace by Jill Murphy

This one is an absolute guilty pleasure. It is about a momma who just wants a little alone time. I read it on days the kids are driving me bananas–it makes me feel a little better
Martin’s Big Words by Doreen Rappaport

I was looking for a book about Martin Luther King for the kids and thought I’d try this one when I saw it in the Scholastic order form. I have to say I LOVE it!! It was a great way to introduce him and the Civil Rights movement to Supergirl. She loves the book also and had a lot of questions. Great conversation starter, and just the right level for an older preschooler.
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr and John Archambault

This was Boomer’s absolute favorite for a very long time. We even have the video, which I love because it is a song, and just the pictures from the book. So now I sing it when I read it. He tries to sing with me and it’s hilarious.
Boomerisms May 7, 2009
This little boy talks so much there are days I realize I haven’t heard silence all day (he gets it from his sister). Here are just a few of the phrases I hear the most:
B: Mom, you know what?
Me: What?
B: Mom, you know what?
Me: What?
B: Mom, you know what?
Me: WHAT?!?!
B: Ummmmmmm……. (he never finishes his thought–though I’m pretty sure he never had one to begin with)
B: Sting like a bee (he randomly says this about a thousand times a day)
B: Five dollar footlongs
B: We got ourselves a nodder…
B: Don’t have a cow.
He is also in day 3 (or 4 I can’t remember now) of big boy underwear with no accidents!!!
As for me, I have been feeling SO much better this week. Not sure if it is us trying to eat healthier, taking vitamins, or the sunshine. But I have actually cleaned the house, done a lot of yard work and played a lot with the kids. YAY summer!!!
Big News! May 4, 2009
Today…. Boomer wore Thomas underwear ALL DAY and kept them dry ALL day (except for nap, during which he wore a diaper and did not keep it dry–but seriously—he was sleeping)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hooray for my big boy
MAY PROJECT May 2, 2009
One of my absolute favorite organizations is this month’s project. Sustainable giving is definitely the way to go! It takes all of 1 minute to make a purchase and the best part is these make GREAT gifts… Today, I bought a flock of chicks—what are you up for?
