A sad, sad day

Today has been a very sad day.  Today we had to make the fateful decision that Winfrey was in too much pain.  Two nights ago she started barking during the night and nothing seemed to really make her happy.  The next day she seemed better, but last night the barking started again.  Daddy-O tried feeding her, taking her outside, turning on the a/c.  Nothing seemed to work.  Then this afternoon she started whining.  She then went outside and was sick.  It was almost as if she simply didn't know what to do.  Standing up seemed to be uncomfortable, laying down was possibly even worse…and then she got sick again.  We decided she was way too miserable, this was the one thing no one wanted, was for her to be in pain.  So Daddy-O took Supergirl to say goodbye.  She hugged her and said, "Bye, bye Winfrey."  We took Supergirl to the babysitter and took Winfrey to the vet.  The vet agreed that it was time…  It was all very fast, and very sad.  Supergirl, of course, doesn't really know what's going on, which is probably a good thing.  Daddy-O is requesting that if anyone has any Winfrey stories or Winfrey pictures that they please share.  Feel free to leave as a comment or email them.  I think she was pretty special to all of us.  We will definitely be missing her around here!!!!

Hey guys. I’m so so sorry to hear about Winfrey. She was a sweet girl and I know she was truly part of your family. I have lots of Winfrey memories, and they are all happy ones. I remember when Gafford and Winfrey would come pick me up from the sorority house to take a break from rush and go pimpin’. One time we went to Sonic and I got a limeade. Right after the carhop brought it to us, I sat it in the cupholder and Winfrey put her big paw right in the middle of it, smashing the cup and flooding the jeep with cherry limeade (which we all know was a tragedy- since the jeep was always so clean and detailed). Does anybody else remember being on the LaFrance the night that Gafford thought he’d be able to pick up more girls with Oprah and Winfrey in the back? Well, he picked up some girls- then Winfrey puked on them while riding around campus. Nobody could shake their moneymaker as well as Winfrey, and she will be missed very much. I will be thinking about you guys.
    Love, Katie

Wes and I remember Winfrey in Stillwater when she used to sit with her hind end of the sofa and her big paws on the floor, as if she couldn’t quite decide which location she’d rather be. Wes remembers when Mike brought home Winfrey has a cute, fluffy puppy, and he then remembers how she grew up so quickly. Wes also remembers when the mailman came to the door. Winfrey charged towards the baby gate that separated her from the outside world, and before the mailman could pull out his pepper spray, Winfrey jumped the gate and ran right past the mailman and into the street! Good thing she had Oprah to help her out! We’ll miss her.

I am sorry to hear about Winfrey and what she had to go through the last few months. I remember coming home from class one day to eat lunch. Oprah and Winfrey were laying on the couch and I was sitting in my chair. Winfrey got up and walked over to the floor furnace. She sniffed around for a few seconds, then calmly squatted over the furnace and whizzed right in it. I was shocked at first, then almost choked on my quarter-pounder with cheese from laughing so hard when I realized what she did. She knew she would get in trouble by peeing on the floor, but nobody knew it when she peed in the furnace. We definitely paid the price in the fall when we had to fire up the furnace. All of the accumulated hair and whiz residue puts off quite a distinctive odor when it is burning. We had to leave the window open for a couple of days to air out the house in 50 degree weather. I hope Oprah is doing well without her sidekick.

Thank you guys for the stories. We had actually forgotten a lot of those. As for me, I remember when I lived next door to Michael. I once left out a bowl completely full of Hershey Kisses. The next morning the bowl was mysteriously empty. Also the next day Winfrey vomited a huge pile of foil wrappers… I remember the day we introduced her to Jackson, she literally stuck her head through the screen door to try to bite him. She was then walking around trying to look all innocent with a big wad of his tail hair hanging from her mouth. Follow that with when we first moved to St. Louis. The dogs were staying with Michael’s parents while we visited Oklahoma. His parents walked into the kitchen to find a crime scene. There was blood everywhere, spattered across the floor, the stove, the refrigerator, even the washing machine in the next room. Apparently Winfrey had managed to get a better hold on Jackson’s tail that time. I blame all of that violence on Bo! I will also always remember what a baby she was when she heard loud noises. She busted right through a wooden gate at our last house because she heard the sump pump turn on. We found the gate in little splinters. You are right Katie, no one could shake there money-maker like her! Thank you for all the good memories.
