Neighbors: The Good, The Bad, and well…Us

So the other day I had finished putting down Supergirl for her nap, was headed downstairs and had the thought:  “that leafblower sounds like it is actually in our yard now.”  Mind you, I had been hearing it for quite awhile, but it definitely seemed to have moved closer.  Next thought:  “our freaking neighbors (the ones whose house backs up to ours) are actually blowing their freaking leaves into our freaking yard.  FREAKS!!!”  So I head to the window to have a look and this is what I see:
Halloween 2006 006

All of these people in our yard.  Raking up and bagging our leaves!!  Including the neighbors on both sides of us!

I ran back up the stairs to inform Daddy-O of what was going down in our own backyard, only to find him heading down the stairs to tell me the same thing.  He had even had the same evil thought about the leafblower!  By the time we got outside the work was pretty much done and we were left feeling like idiots! Apparently the youth group at our neighbors church was having a contest to see who could bag the most leaves and they figured we wouldn’t mind (we didn’t!).  I think they got something like 42 bags just from our house and the house next door!  Moral of the story:  don’t think evil thoughts until you at least look out the window!

That reminds me of the story where a woman gets on the plane with a bag of chips. After sitting down, she opens the chips and starts eating. But the guy next to her also reaches into the bag and takes some of the chips. And then they get down to the last chip and the man smiles and tells her she can have it. The woman is of course livid, what makes this man think it’s his chip to give?
And then as she gets off the airplane, she sees her own bag of chips, unopened, on the floor. Turns out SHE was eating HIS chips.

I might have butchered the story but I like it because the guy first seems to be incredibly rude but then you find out that he was actually being really nice.

First of all, that’s incredibly cool. Second of all, your back yard is even cooler!

What a nice surprise. I wouldn’t mind a lot of people blowing our leaf for us. Truly. That would be so cool!

My husband’s best friend actually have their neighbor always trimming their hedges. He just does it. For years!
