Looking for motivation

So running was going great for a while (I’ve been going 3 times a week pretty consistently since June). I was excited, I was improving amazingly fast, and I was losing weight. Even on my rest days i was wishing i was running. But now that I can run 3 miles I have kind of hit a slump.

I had signed up for a 5k in sept, a 10k in October, and started participating in a competition at work tracking our miles—all things to motivate me. BUT I also started work again along with getting the kids to school and dance and soccer and flag football…. Needless to say finding time has gotten trickier and I am exhausted.

I ran the 5k on Saturday and finished in 30:48, which was WAY better than my 36:53 I finished in a little over a year ago!! I am extremely nervous about the 10k, even though I ran 6 miles 2 weeks ago and didn’t die… I want to be excited but I’m just not feeling it. THEN–to top it all off, today we got the results of our first week of tracking miles at work (we wear a pedometer and track running miles). I had 22.7 miles, which I thought was pretty good, but I was in second to last place!!!! The number one person had 91 miles—which I think is not possible—which leads me to believe people are cheating—-which makes me not want to participate.

Now I am looking for new motivation. This is something I am doing for ME—which is what makes it so hard! But I’m not ready to quit—I like the results way too much! What motivates you?

    Sarah,
I think what motivates me to exercise and I have moved to walking from running is knowing that I am doing something good for myself that will actually be good for everyone around me. Slump periods do occur and I have always found that running with a buddy (who is faster than me helps), altering my route and or time of day and not worrying about the time. As you go to a longer distance, just worry about the distance, the time can come later. Just do it, but listen to your body, sometimes you need a day off.
I hope this helps! Auntie Charlotte

does everyone have the same pedometer? Pedometers are hard. Bill has been trying to find one and we have had a hard time finding ones that are accurate. Some of them were counting 3-5 steps for everyone one step he took. So people might not be cheating as much as not having accurate pedometers.

I wish I could help with the motivation thing. Mine is totally lost. Hoping to find it soon.
